Superintendent's Message

The Board of Education I thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as the District continues to provide your child/children learning opportunities during this unprecedented physical closure of schools.  As partners in your child’s education, we know the vital role families play in the social and intellectual development of children.  We ask that you ensure your child/children remain engaged in their education by completing their assignments online.  We know this is a difficult time for you as well. But we are confident the unity and vitality of our District community will give us the necessary strength, so that together, we overcome this temporary but complex reality that affects us in so many ways.

Please continue to visit the Rialto USD webpage for ongoing updates on school closures, Distance Learning, services, and other relevant information.

-Cuauhtémoc Avila, Ed.D.

What You Need to Know

The concepts your child will be covering during Distance Learning will be concepts that were taught between August and early March of this school year. This model will allow your child to gain a deeper understanding of the material taught and will provide you multiple opportunities to improve your trimester 2 (elementary) or quarter 3 (middle and high school)   grades. It is from these grades and your participation in Google Classroom that your child's final grade will be based.

Distance Learning will begin on April 13 via Google Classroom.  Google Classroom will be used as the primary source of instruction and communication. Teachers may also use other District approved platforms to support your child's learning. Every Monday, starting April 13, 2020, your child will be logging onto your Google Classrooms to access their assignment schedule for the week.  Students in grade levels Preschool-5th will have (1) Google Classroom account. Students in grades 6-12 will have (6) Google Classroom accounts (one for each class). Teachers will be there to support you with any questions that you might have regarding this new way of learning.

Broadband Access

Internet providers are offering 60 days of complimentary broadband access to homes with K-12 and college students. If you're interested, please click on this link

Distance Learning Expectations:

Safety is the number one priority for our Rialto USD students. In an effort to create safe virtual learning environments during this time of Distance Learning, the District would like to remind families of the expectations for our Rialto “Digital Citizens.”

  1. Please review and adhere to the Rialto USD Acceptable Use Policy
  2. Please take a few minutes to review and listen to the PBIS Distance Learning Expectations video
  3. Please be aware that if a student exhibits behavior that violates the above expectations, progressive discipline may be issued

Resources and Activities

Enrichment Activities by Grade Level & Subject Area

While these learning opportunities are not required, these enrichment activities and iReady resources are very important to develop student educational growth and are highly recommended in order to keep students educationally engaged. These activities will not be collected or graded.

Advanced Placement (AP) Testing

Advanced Placement (AP) tests will be given at the same time throughout the nation, from May 11 to May 22, 2020. The exams will be taken at home with open books and notes and will last approximately 45 minutes. The exams can be taken on any device available —including on a computer, tablet or smartphone — or students can write responses by hand and submit a photo via their cellphones. Points will not be earned from content that can be found in textbooks or online, while software will be used to detect a student’s unique identity and style of online interactions.

In this link, you will find learning resources and various supports for students and their families. There are resources specifically for students receiving special education and related services. We have provided supports for speech services, social skills, behavior, occupational/physical therapy, and social-emotional supports. There will be more resources added regularly.

Mobile Hotspot

In effort to ensure that Distance Learning is effective for all students, RUSD has ordered internet hotspots for students in need. The District will be distributing mobile hotspots to families that do not have home internet. Mobile hotspots create Wi-Fi networks that can be shared by multiple users within about 10 meters of the hotspot device. The hotspots are setup to connect to district devices and will connect automatically. Devices come with Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) compliance requirements. Students who attempt to visit an inappropriate site will be blocked by the device.
